I am Tom Howlett, currently an SEO Consultant, specialising in SEO and PPC, but how did I get here? Back in college I took a an interest in a variety of subjects including Maths, Physics, Media Studies and Graphic Design. It seems as though these courses couldn't be much different from each other, but I feel as though it has fulfilled my underlying creativeness whilst helping me see through things in a logical manor (something I currently use every day).
I really enjoyed Maths back in college, a passion that has stuck with me to this day and one that nearly led me to study for a Maths degree. It was a tossup between Maths and Design that eventually led me to study Computer Aided Product Design (CAPD) at Bournemouth University. It had the perfect mix of design, technical, creative, business and marketing related modules with the benefit of a year's placement working for an external company.
My placement year was spent working with Anglepoise (a well known British lighting manufacturer) as a designer. During this time I worked on a variety of new Anglepoise products including the Original 1227. I also was fortunate enough to work with established designers Kenneth Grange and Anthony Dickens. Working for the company in a relatively small team allowed me to be involved in different areas rather than working solely in the design department on design related tasks. I managed to gain a unique perspective working within Anglepoise from a business and marketing perspective as they were keen on taking Anglepoise into the future whilst maintaining the unique brand image that has been with the company since the 1930's.
I headed back to University for my final year and really developed my passion for business strategy, marketing and consumer psychology (thanks to Pete Hogarth and Dave Challice for their great lectures). This propelled me to pursue a career in online marketing and found myself at Koozai.
My previous areas of interest still fuel my creativity at work and in personal projects. I like taking to new things and a recent addition to my skill area is web design (HTML & CSS), which I use to bring my ideas to life (see below for details on current and past projects).
